I've had a couple of wonderful French recipe books written by Patricia Wells and loved them. A couple of months ago, a young friend of mine said she wanted to go to Paris with me next year. I go often, so I kind of know my way around, and as far as I'm concerned, there's no such thing as going too often to Paris! Since my friend is a "foodie" and swears I'm one too, she wants to go to as many patisseries, boulangeries, fromageries, etc., we can fit in. I thought I'd check Amazon and see what books they had on the subject. Turns out that Patricia Wells' most recently edited and updated version of The Food Lover's Guide to Paris (2014) had just shown up on Amazon, so I grabbed it fast! It's wonderful, of course, and I second all the comments other reviewers have made regarding the previous edition. I think I particularly like the fact that the sections are broken into the different arrondisements, which seems like a really great idea. You'll spend hours reading this book, from cover to cover. Tons of photos, recipes, etc. I can't imagine anyone reading this book and not wanting to fly to Paris - of which I heard Arthur Frommer say years ago is "The most glorious city in the world!" Truer words were never spoken! We purchased her original book of the same name over 30 years ago and using it as a bible for our first trip to Paris. We took copious notes and even got autographs of the chefs. I still have it, a chronicle of the culinary trip. This version has updated the restaurants but it has a confusing index system. It's not consistent. I hope she redoes the index system if she updates the edition.
